Savitri Khalsa
I started working in clay in high school. I majored in Art/ceramics in college (W.V.U.) 1985. I went on to receive an M.F.A. in 1987 from Ohio University. I have been a functional potter for almost 40 yrs. I love the feeling of working in clay! My inspiration is from forms in nature, flowers, water, birds, & leaves etc. Texture and patterns in nature also inspire me. My intention is to create beautiful objects to compliment a landscape or home interior. I have been on a spiritual path since 2002. The "Shine" sun sculptures reflect my spiritual life. It's about expressing the positive and focusing on that within myself which is not always an easy task. I believe "The Light will Prevail". My work is a combination of form, line, texture, movement and color to animate the piece. New sculptural work may include the use of Italian 14k gold leaf mosaic tile inlaid into the clay. This gives the piece a wondrous quality of light reflection. I have a goal to transition to mostly making sculptural pieces in 2025-'26. Another material that I will soon be using is sheet metal. Using the element of "air" to turn a propeller will add real physical movement, light reflection and whimsy to the work. I'm looking forward to seeing how the gold mosaic and brass or copper sheet compliment each other and play out in my sculptures. Stay tuned to Sunny Day Clay!
I am available for consultation with clients to inquire about commission work for pottery, totems or other sculptures. It would be best to talk to see if the idea is a "fit". Totem pieces are about $200. a foot depending on the intricacy of the pieces. Please text 540-327-3392 to make an appointment.
