Description

Ephemeral Tides explores the transient nature of marine life through hand-formed ceramic sculptures inspired by sea creatures, including octopus, clownfish, dolphins, coral forms, and sea slugs.

Using clay as a lasting material to preserve fleeting marine gestures, the work reflects on impermanence, vulnerability, environmental fragility, and the tension between preservation and disappearance.

Through texture, form, and surface detail, the exhibition invites viewers into a quiet contemplation of change, care, and the evolving relationship between humans and the ocean.

Featured Artists

Mary Yeagley Bower creates handcrafted ceramic tiles distinguished by their originality, texture, and sculptural depth. Each mold is developed from her own carefully refined designs, with significant attention devoted to every detail before the molding process begins. Her tiles feature deep relief work enhanced with iron oxide and layered glazes, creating dimension and emphasizing the natural character of each subject.

Inspired by the beauty found in nature’s overlooked details, Mary draws from the textures, forms, and quiet complexity of the environment and its creatures. Her work balances simplicity of design with richly tactile surfaces that invite viewers to engage closely with each piece. Through her art, she hopes not only to create objects that can be enjoyed every day but also to encourage a deeper appreciation for conservation and the natural world.

In addition to her studio work, Mary enjoys creating custom tile installations for kitchens, fireplaces, bathrooms, and other architectural spaces. She welcomes the creative challenges of custom commissions, viewing each project as an opportunity to blend craftsmanship, functionality, and personal expression.
