Description:

The Color of Water explores one of the most essential and elusive elements in our world. Though water itself is colorless, it continuously transforms, reflecting the environment, memory, emotion, and meaning. From luminous turquoise to deep indigo, the exhibition examines water through both literal and symbolic perspectives.

Through realism, abstraction, and experimentation, participating artists respond to the question: What is your color of water?

Featured Artists

Susan Callahan has worked in textiles for more than 25 years, creating hand-dyed fabrics and incorporating upcycled materials into her work. An internationally exhibiting artist, her recent exhibitions include the Rehoboth Art League, Strathmore Museum, and LIT Gallery in California. Her featured textile work combines denim, tulle, lace, and metallic quilting to evoke the shifting beauty and atmosphere of water.

Gail Gingrich transforms sheet metal into miniature wearable sculptures through jewelry-making. Her work reflects a lifelong exploration of craftsmanship, discovery, and personal expression.

Keith Warren is a lifelong artist and educator whose photography practice developed alongside a 38-year career as an art teacher. His images capture quiet moments in nature, often inspired by kayaking and coastal walks, reflecting his thoughtful observation and appreciation for the natural world.

Nancy Bramble finds joy in working with her hands, using jewelry-making as a deeply personal form of creative expression. Her one-of-a-kind pieces reflect a contemporary, casual aesthetic, often combining wire, cord, and metalwork in unexpected ways. Recently, she has expanded her practice through the exploration of polymer clay techniques, embracing new possibilities for texture, color, and form.

For Nancy, the creative process offers calm, focus, and fulfillment. Her work My Color of Water represents a meaningful departure from jewelry-making, translating memories of beach days into stitched mixed-media art through the repurposing of denim.

Carol Hargreaves is a multidisciplinary artist driven by a lifelong creative spirit expressed through fashion, music, and visual art. Her artistic journey has included stained glass, metalsmithing, lapidary work, resin art, and mosaics, with each medium contributing to her evolving creative language.

Carol approaches art intuitively, allowing ideas to develop organically rather than beginning with a fixed outcome. Starting from a single thought or spark of inspiration, she builds layered works that reflect curiosity, experimentation, and the blending of diverse techniques into unified pieces.

Mary Louise Lauffer grew up with tools in her hands, making creativity and craftsmanship a natural part of her life. Her early work included designing and building small boats, wooden toys, woodblock prints, and three-dimensional assemblages, alongside painting and a long career as an art educator.

A lifelong beachcomber with a passion for repurposed materials, Mary Louise discovered her artistic calling in transforming collected seaglass into stained glass artwork and fine jewelry. Now retired, she continues to create in her studio, where soldering, assembling, and experimenting remain part of her daily practice. When not making art, she can often be found beachcombing, gardening, or playing music.

Cathy Cranfield is a versatile artist whose work spans wire wrapping, beadwork, acrylic painting, and floral design. Known for her attention to detail and thoughtful craftsmanship, she creates distinctive pieces that reflect both technical skill and artistic sensitivity.

Inspired by the beauty and atmosphere of the local beach community, Cathy infuses her work with coastal textures, colors, and energy. She is dedicated to continual artistic growth, regularly exploring new techniques, researching emerging styles, and connecting with fellow creatives to expand her practice. This commitment to learning keeps her work fresh, evolving, and deeply inspired.
